A trip to Louisiana at the beginning of the last century, in the atmosphere of the mythical trios of New Orleans... Guillaume Nouaux is not at his first attempt in this today little used form of the clarinet-trio. piano-drums. In 2004, he teamed up with Alain Barrabès (piano) and Paul Chéron (clarinet) for the album New Orleans Duo & Trio in this format. A true lover of New Orleans music, he repeated the experience for his album Drumset In The Sunset with clarinettist Guy Bonne and pianist Jacques Schneck. This disc received numerous awards, including a "CHOC" in Jazz Magazine and the 2011 Jazz Academy Prize as the best classical jazz album of the year. In 2016, he released the album Here Comes The Band accompanied by Jérôme Gatius (clarinet) and Didier Datcharry (piano). This disc is unanimously acclaimed by the specialized press: "CHOC" Jazz Magazine, "ELU" Citizen Jazz, "INDISPENSABLE" Jazz Hot, "INDISPENSABLE" Jazz News. Drawing on his experience as a sideman drummer with the greatest traditional jazz clarinettists on the planet (Bob Wilber, Evan Christopher, Ken Peplowski, Antti Sarpila...), Guillaume decided to put this instrument in the spotlight by inviting a few of the best classical jazz clarinettists who make up the international scene of our time. He released the album Guillaume Nouaux & The Clarinet Kings in this format of the clarinet-piano-drums trio in 2019. This double album received a unanimous welcome from the specialized press in France and abroad. He was nominated for the Jazz Classic Prize of the Jazz Academy 2019 and won the Special Jury Prize of the Hot Club de France 2019. The following year, he released the album Guillaume Nouaux & The Stride Piano on the same concept. Kings, bringing together seven major representatives of the international stride piano scene. This album receives many rave reviews all over Europe, the United States, Japan, Russia, and even Australia. The French cultural and musical press awards him its highest distinctions: ƒƒƒ Télérama, "CHOC" Jazz Magazine, "INDISPENSABLE" Jazz News, "MAESTRO" Pianiste Magazine, "HIT" Couleurs Jazz... In March 2021, he is a new awarded by the Jazz Academy and received the 2020 Jazz Classic Prize. A few days later, he was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque du Hot Club de France.
For more than 20 years that he has been touring as a leader in this particular format of the trio without bass, Guillaume Nouaux has been able to unite a large audience of connoisseurs and lovers of traditional jazz, but also an audience simply happy to have a good moment in the company of generous musicians who like to share the festive spirit of this music. Accustomed to traveling across France and Europe with his trio, he has always surrounded himself with the best style specialists. It is constantly with an obvious pleasure to play that the musicians of the trio interpret a repertoire rooted in the tradition of jazz from the origins, where tunes of ragtime, blues, swing and popular tunes of New Orleans mingle.
