INTERNATIONAL CLASSIC JAZZ WORKSHOP
Every year during the first week of November, the International Classic Jazz Workshop takes place in Ascona, Switzerland. One of Europe’s leading educational events dedicated to classic jazz, it offers an immersive experience for musicians who wish to develop, deepen, and refine their practice.
Led by saxophonist and clarinetist Frank Roberscheuten, the workshop is held at the beautiful Hotel Ascona, overlooking Lake Maggiore. The program combines rigor and warmth with top international instructors. It includes instrument classes, including the drum classes I teach, as well as ensemble workshops.
Each evening, the hotel bar becomes a jazz club, with jam sessions bringing together participants and faculty to play, experiment, and exchange ideas, culminating in the weekend concerts. Musicians and teachers from around the world attend, and classes are generally conducted in English. All of this takes place in a friendly, studious, and inspiring atmosphere.

I offer educational sessions focused on jazz drumming, organized in two distinct formats: the DRUM CLINIC, accessible to all, and the MASTERCLASS, specifically designed for drummers. Each format is tailored to suit its audience and context, providing an enriching and engaging experience for all participants.
DRUM CLINIC
A dynamic musical presentation open to everyone. Through an educational approach combining historical context, theoretical explanations, carefully selected musical examples, and numerous drum demonstrations, this session offers a lively and immersive experience that appeals both to student musicians and to the general public. Perfect for a wide audience—whether you are a beginner, curious listener, experienced drummer, or simply passionate about music—this format invites you to explore the full richness of jazz drumming. Sitting behind my drum kit, I guide participants through a friendly and playful session, offering a shared moment of discovery for all.
MASTERCLASS
A session dedicated to drummers who wish to deepen their knowledge and master the subtleties of jazz drumming. This format explores in depth the rhythmic and stylistic characteristics of the instrument, with a particular focus on technical skills. I provide a well-documented overview of jazz drumming, from its origins in New Orleans to contemporary innovations, highlighting the central role of the drummer in the evolution of jazz. I also share elements of my personal approach to the instrument, aiming to inspire each participant to develop their own style and explore new ideas. This masterclass is intended for drummers striving for excellence, looking to refine their playing and expand their understanding of jazz.
Over the years, I’ve had the pleasure of performing and teaching in a wide variety of settings, from conservatories and music schools to more informal spaces such as jazz festivals, drum events, associations, libraries, and music stores. « Great French specialist in jazz drumming, Guillaume Nouaux gives us here a precious collection, which takes stock of 60 years of jazz tempo and solos. Jazz Drums Legacy features 30 drum parts from jazz legends, complete or partial pickups from Baby Dodds to Brian Blade. The whole is interspersed with very relevant and often valid considerations of the author for all styles concerning the work of the technique, the swing, the dynamics, the musicality, the experience... also supplemented by quotes from stars of the instrument.
This remarkable work is obviously only intended for advanced drummers, familiar with the style and eager to know all its subtleties, and completely at ease with rhythmic music theory. If you are in this case, get Jazz Drums Legacy urgently ! »

« A veritable living encyclopedia of jazz drumming, Guillaume Nouaux is a renowned pedagogue and an essential musician on the jazz circuit. Already author of an excellent book published in 2012, Jazz Drums Legacy, the musician from Arcachon creates a surprise with Jazz Brushes, an original method dedicated to the art of playing with brushes. For this unique and ultra-playful work, Guillaume had the brilliant idea of adopting a life-size presentation of a snare drum.
Purpose ? Apply the exercises directly on the pages of the book, simply with a pair of brushes, to work anywhere, and without equipment... Thirty diagrams will help you learn about the different techniques and movements used in the jazz repertoire. A fun approach designed for drummers of all levels. »
